The 129$ price tag Weber asks for this front shelf just seemed a bit steep…
So I bought a couple foldable shelf brackets (11$) and dug out an old piece of oak worktop
Brackets just screws on the barbecue where the original part would go
Some planing and gutter contour…
The router loosened in its mount while planning and the bit plunged a few millimeters too deep, so I added those ridges on top to cover up the mistake
Some locating holes with dowels, and I can machine the other side (dados for the brackets)
Some mineral oil and we’re set…

Great use of existing materials, and you have enhanced your smoker quite a bit.

Very nice addition, and seems much better than buying.

Very nice, I may borrow that idea for my Chargriller Gravity 980. The shelf that comes with it is ok, but way too high and not quite deep enough.

I’m not too happy with how the handle takes up half of the space when the lid is closed, but it’s the same problem on the og one
This are the brackets I used

Looks great, well done.
Now you’re tempting me to check my local thrift for used countertops….

That’s the problem with mine, the handle is in the way. Thanks for the bracket link.

I’ll probably replace the U-shaped handle with 2 smaller knobs at some point, but I have to find the correct shape/size firstIf you ever get to replace yours, please share what solution you found

That looks like a pretty useful place for a shelf. The wood looks great. My grill has all the knobs there.
