Vertical XY Gantry for Automatic Robot Arm Harvester

I’m working on a new project and wanted to share with the group, this seemed like the most appropriate place.

My objective for this project is to build a xy gantry that can be bolted to a shelf allowing a robot arm (SO-101) to move anywhere on the shelf to automatically harvest saffron flowers using ai.

I’ve got a tight deadline so i’m using an extra hardware kit I had on hand for a lowrider 3 to see how far I get! I am using some sbr16 linear rails for the prototype. Still have a mountain to climb but it should be pretty sweet in the end! I’m working towards having a fully automatic indoor hydroponic system capable of taking basic inputs (power, water, nutrients) and outputting fresh produce or valuable crops.

Interested to hear anyones tips or answer and questions.

Already seen this Calgary guy home growing saffron?

He mentioned building a robot arm for harvesting, and being open to collaborating with people…

Indoor hydroponics, and aeroponics, are interesting to me, especially when densely vertically stacked with mostly closed loop recycled/filtered water and renewable power. I’ve yet to actually make anything related to that space, am rooting for others to be successful though. Good luck!

I’m the one building the robot arm and hydroponic systems he’s going to use.

Very cool! Do you have a discord/github where you’re tracking and openly sharing progress? I respect if this is a private closed commercial project, but, would like to follow if it’s open?

Not yet but I will share everything at some point!
