V3 - Strut plates printed on 3d printer instead of wood

Hey guys

Is it also possible to print the X struts on my 3d printer instead of wood.

I´m really not interessted to rebuild the whole machine to install the struts

Here is a picture what I mean.

Thank you for your help

I really think you will be losing a LOT of rigidity in the beam leaving all those temp struts on there. If all you plan to cut is foam then you will probably be fine. But if you want to cut anything harder and with any speed/accuracy your going to want full one piece struts.

Ok, then I have to make the struts. Do you know if it is possible to install them without rebuild the whole machine?

Yes. You only have to take the core off. You don’t have to take everything apart. If you raise Z all the way to the top, you can side the top pipe over. Remove the screw for the X tensioner and then you can slide the core off where you moved the pipe clear. Once it is off you can remove all your temp struts and then install the real strut. Reinstall the core and slide your pipe back over. Then tip the machine over and you can remove your temp struts on the bottom and install the bottom strut. @Tokoloshe figured this out during the beta and it has been very helpful

I just wanted to mention that before you cut your permanent struts, you might want to install some of the temp struts on the front and bottom. On the picture it looks like you only have them on the back. For reference, on the current LR4 design that strut was eliminated entirely and the front and bottom maintain rigidity. Also, I did not have them go all the way across for those initial strut cuts. I had a few printed and placed them on all 3 faces, on the ends, and a couple toward the part of the beam where I knew it would be cutting (not sure this is necessary.)

The bottom strut is pretty easy. The back strut won’t be too bad, but you’ll probably need to remove some of the cable chain stuff to get it in position. The front is the one that involves removing the core.

GOOD CATCH!!! I did NOT look at the pic close enough at all!

Yeah, it’s possible, but a bad idea if you plan to cut things. Given the material, time and energy you’ve already invested… Making decent wood/mdf/something struts is a great first mini project and will help reduce frustration with other projects you do.

LR3 Core can be removed without taking machine apart… https://forum.v1e.com/t/lowrider-3-azas-idex-upgrade-2-routers/40040/26
