USSA Design Vault Storage

I like ussa design, their youtubes, their products, etc.
Has anyone seen this yet? Their kickstarter has made nearly $500,000 just for plans to build it!
Private non sale purchase is 69 bucks

Commercial is 299!
I cannot believe so many people wanted those plans!

There’s no way I’m printing that much plastic for storage. And if I was, there’s plenty of free options.

I agree with you, but if you watch what they thought out while designing that thing, it is insane. If i had a print farm, I may have taken a shot at it. The possibilities are endless. I would need to get money upfront from someone though, I would not want to print out tons of those things and sit on them!

It is a pretty nice looking system I must admit. I love printing useful things but there comes a point where printing is not the best option, I think this is on the verge. Printing the smallest module would be about $5 AUD if I am buying an acceptable (but not favoured) filament in bulk.

I wish they could release a single module for free for people to print and see how good it is before purchasing. The kickstarter cost is $114 AUD, I could maybe justify that if I had a test unit.

I agree entirely with @James_Keillor James!

I really do appreciate a lot of the work the USSA guys put into very well developed designs, and good on them for what looks to be a great financial success, it’s well deserved. I do think it’s an interesting “IKEA effect” happening here.

Once again we are seeing a rather broad definition of “kick starter” though - the work is done, there is really no capital raising needed as the prices are for licenses or STL’s which could have been downloaded for a fee from many other places.

These guys really do leverage that well - it’s a beautiful product - well thought out, well developed and very seductive.

I think there are easier faster and more flexible ways of achieving the same thing albeit with less sex appeal, but it means buying suitable containers at a fraction of the price of printing them. For instance - I haven’t published these yet, but I call them OFF_GRIDfinity. The model is a solid block. You don’t need a grid, just buy a $1-00 (AUD) stackable box, and fill it with containers printed in vase mode scaled to a sizer to suit. Cheap as chips, fast to print and infinitely adaptable depending on the box you buy.

The (non printed) versions are a stack of 14 back to back - $2.00 divided containers in a heavily modified IKEA tea trolley that was discarded somewhere, and the Ratty containers with the nails (bottom left) have served faithfully for three decades - they were $1.00 and the dividers are the bottoms of 2litre milk bottles cut off at lid height. They stack three high on my shelves and I take the container out when I have a job for the contents!

Sorry, not meant as an ego trip or a hijack - but here are some ideas from my shed, not beautiful, but each serves a purpose and my total outlay is less than the cost of the files.

This looks great. I need to spend some time at the hardware store and see what the best containers would be for something similar. So many of them don’t have flat bottoms or dont stack etc.

After seeing the USSA system I decided to see what else was out there for free and found this one.

Gave one a test and its pretty decent. Forgot to include supports on the lid but it printed fine anyway.

I’ve printed a few of those.

I for one could NEVER yell at anyone hear about hijacking! I am very popular for that! (Very consciously trying to make sure I do not do it though). The And this was just a hey look at this half million dollar project anyway!
