So in assembly my MPCNC I ran into a slight issue. I don’t have enough wire to get from the far side steppers back to my control board. I’m running the dual endstop firmware and have a whole bunch of 23AWG CAT6 cable laying around.
I see that the individual wiring harness uses 22AWG wire, but the series set uses 26AWG. Is there a reason for the difference in wire gauge, or will I be ok splicing in 23AWG wire into 22AWG wiring?
You might have made the same mistake that I did. I kept trying to connect the middle connector instead of the end connector. Try using the other connector and see if you have a longer cable.
And yes, that wire will work.
As long as the CAT6 you have has stranded conductors, you’ll be fine. The cheaper solid conductor versions will eventually break.
It’s solid, but I was going to strategically locate it so it’s in non-moving locations.
Cat6 will work. Only problem I had was in trying to crimp dupont ends on the 24AWG Cat 6 because of the thinness of the cable sheathing. Wasted a lot of time trying to get solid connections.
Definitely use stranded wire, not solid. Connectors are a pain. You can use a cat 5or 6 network connector to connect them. Lowe’s sell the connectors in electrical. Easier than the Dupont ends earlier referenced. You can use wire nuts too for that matter. Just tape the nut so humidity won’t affect the bare copper inside. Not as pretty but just as effective and fast. Great to get up and running if needed.
