Working some more on my under table build but realized I don’t really have a height for the machine. Based the dims off the table in the guide. Right now the top of the rail to the cross beam is 16". I do have 2" extra to mess with but I was accounting for adjustable feet. Basically I need to know if it will be enough to run the LR4.
I would take any suggestions as well. More room here or there, more support, whatever you may have for me.
The LR4 will run with just 1’, but, I feel bad for anyone frequently operating the machine, 2’ x 4’ would be unpleasant, full 4’ x 8’ sounds like a nightmare. Infrequent CNC usage would make sense. Already considered bench that flips? I’m making some assumptions about you not happening to be this guy…
These machines need to be constantly watched, built my multi-purpose 1/4 sheet bench at bar height to keep things fun and convenient…
All of my woodworking to this point has been traditional so I honestly don’t know how frequent I will be using it. I have a shop in the garage that can’t support another table so I have to get clever. Is constantly watching just part of the job? I initially am doing this because I wanted something that can run while I am working.
For a flip table - I had thought about it but I also wanted to be able to work in the shop while it’s running so that would mean no outfeed for the table saw and no assembly. It being low doesn’t concern me much, but if I have to constantly be on the ground watching it - that’s another thing
It does need to be constantly monitored, but I often monitor by sound. After the first few jobs, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what the machine sounds like when it’s operating properly. I can even hear it well through some basic hearing protection. So I can be nearby doing a glue up, processing parts, or even doing some additional CAD work. I glance over regularly, but I’m listening constantly.
Between my assembly table and my LR4 I keep a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket. I can grab it and be to the table in 5-6 steps.
It’s a hobby robot that I’ve armed with a spinning hunk of metal. I’ve seen enough Schwarzenegger movies to know it will eventually try to kill me.
