Tubing straightness advice

hi,

Working on my first CNC/Lowrider machine.

In Europe we do not have the standard conduit tubing like in the BOM. So I ordered 30mm stainless steel tubing. Apparently steel tubing has a straightness tolerance of ±0.002 L (L=lenght).

In a half sheet configuration LowRider that adds up to ± 3mm or 1/8” on either X or Y. The tubing that I ordered has a slight bow in it.

I am wondering what the experiences are of others? how do you deal with this?

The stainless steel are nothing but trouble (I built a Primo and a LR3 with it). It’s also not precisely round.
In the EU I’d advise everyone to buy Präzisionsstahlrohr (it’s basically DOM) in 32mm from jabimetal.at now.

Thanks for your quick response. Two follow up questions:

  1. Do you apply any rust prevention? (E.g. machine wax)
  2. Any specific reason you use 32mm? Just printed everything for 30mm, would hate to throw it away.

Bigger pipe, bigger diameter, more stiffness. I have 3mm walls as well (though those are not really needed).
I did clean them and rubbed them down with Silbergleit. That works pretty well. There is minor rust I can just wipe away with Silbergleit and paper towels.
