TPU free LR4 dust shoe

For those who don’t have TPU or are dubious about printing it here’s another option for the dust shoe skirt bristles.

1mm craft foam fits nicely in the slot. Take a piece of PLA filament and press it in on the outside forcing the foam into the notch along the inner edge.

Then cut the foam into as thick or thin fingers as you like.

Easy, cheap, replaceable. Just like my first wife!

Just kidding

This is not required if you are just building your first lowrider.

The original dust shoe and mount you should start off with are here: Makita 701 Tool Mount and Dust Shoe for the LowRider 4 CNC by V1 Engineering | Download free STL model | Printables.com

My last dust shoe was duct tape.

mine too. Well, scapa tape.

Speaking of which - a small piece of tape over the tip of the lower skirt where it slides into the upper can make the connection a bit more positive if its loose after printing.

That is cool!

That’s really not a bad idea for those that don’t want to fool with TPU prints. I can say from experience it probably won’t last as long as the TPU will. But should be super simple to replace.

Might want to think about snipping some “fingers” in it to give it a little flex if you need to get lower to the work piece.

How flammable is that stuff versus TPU?

Just asking for a friend that might have (knowingly) had a flammable polyester brush on their laser head (3" inches from the nozel) that now has, uh, much less of a brush.

Of course the idea is to not light stuff on fire but it happens… for new users.

This. Yep. Always a trade off. Super easy to do, but does not last as long.

This is a valid question. I don’t know it’s flashpoint temperature. I do know that I used my CO2 laser to cut craft foam, using a relatively low power setting, and it cuts nice, did not catch on fire, tended rather to “melt” a bit.

Heat available to fuel ignition is quite different from the laser “passing by” versus dragging some smoldering chips though.

For sure.

Good idea… I tried to do the same with motobike tube but it is too stiff
(I ride off road, plenty of used 4mm heavy duty tubes waiting for a 2nd life)

I imagine shower curtain material would probably work too.
