Total newbie to CNC has questions

Hello to you all from the UK. I have recently got my hands on a partially built / partially printed LR3 & have been told it needs an MKS Tiny bee board. Googled it & still not a clue what to get. There appears to be all sorts of different ones. Any info would be much appreciated. Also are the end stops just micro switches or something special?

Thanks in advance & be gentle.

Welcome to the community! I have just recently build LR3

I went with SKR PRO board, you could go with Ryan’s board named Jackpot. I personally never heard of MKS Tiny bee board, but I’m not expert

Endstops are just end switches - those with little arm

Greetings!
Welcome to the V1 community forums.

Where in the UK are you?

For a new build or to complete a build I’d recommend a Jackpot V3 or a Jackpot V1.

MKS tinybee isn’t the board we would recommend.

It doesn’t have full UART control of the stepper drivers, and is a bit of an oddball for a V1 machine build. We do have community members successfully using them, but why start out with less capabilities for not much difference in price?

There are other boards like the SKR Pro, but as a general recommendation it’s the jackpot.

Does your build already have a power supply?

Nothing special, just normally closed snap action microswitch endstops.

If you don’t use one of the ones called out in the documentation, pay attention to the mounting hole configuration and size. Avoid ā€œfancyā€ endstops with circuit boards and avoid optical endstops.

We love helping our community with their builds and projects. Ask away.

Feel free to open a build thread for your project finishing up the LR3.
We love pictures, we love build threads.

Ok thanks for that, I’ll scrap that tiny bee when I collect it next week.

I’m in Chester.

I have loads of microswitches so that won’t be a problem.

Not sure if it has PSU with it, But he said it needs (in his word) MKS board, end stops, A battery for the router (I won’t be using that though) some struts printing & some belt locks printing.

Which SKR or Jackpot board would be best for me then.

Not sure if it matters but I’m a Fusion 360 guy for Prusa stuff & I have watched a lot of YT vids of guys using that for their LR’s. I want to use some sort of screen for controls or even some form of remote if that makes a difference.

OK, get a build thread going for your machine and we’ll help as we can.

Should have said I’m new to Forums also !!

Would that be in the your build section then ?

Didn’t realise there was a shop on the V1E site…Doh!! There will be import duties I presume to the UK. Is there any distributors this side of the pond?

You can order from elecrow

Yep.

Jackpot V1: Jackpot CNC Controller FluidNC V1 Engineering MPCNC LowRider CNC

TMC 2209 drivers: Amazon.com

ESP-32: Amazon.com

Edit: Ryan’s worked really hard to have options for builders worldwide, despite the insanity we’re living in.

Edit2: I don’t think Jackpot V3 is yet available from Elecrow, which is why I linked the V1 board. V1 is still a perfectly suitable board, primary difference is removable ESP-32 on the V1 and some improvements in connectors and IO configuration for the V3.

Guidance Counsellor  That’s tickled me. Thanks Guys. The TMC2209 is Out Of Stock (I’ll search for more) & the ESP-32 has DD & UE version ? Which one ?

The forum adds the silly titles. I must answer a lot of questions

Oh the silly games Amazon plays.

You want the 32E. it should say ESP32-WROOM-32E on the main chip.

I thought the genuine V1E ESP-32 board was on elecrow, but I’ll need to go look for links. (Not seeing it, perhaps not available there)

Found this one

Maybe.

That one isn’t an espressif made one, and may have a USB-C connector.

Some of those are a couple of mm wider than the ā€˜normal’ ones. It can still go in the jackpot, though in the worst case you have to slightly bend the headers on the jackpot and the pins on the ESP32 to fit.

We use ESP-32s with CP-2102 UART chips, but some manufacturers use a different UART chip. It can still work, just need the correct drivers to be able to open a FluidTerm console or to use the installers to put FluidNC on it.

I think a 380 just flew over my head

Totally lost me then. How about I pick it up next week & verify everything I need then we will go from there & I can get it going before Christmas hopefully.

This one ?

I don’t think I did when I ordered direct from the USA. Shipping was a fair bit but I ordered a few extra bits n pieces to make it worthwhile.

Oh ok cool thanks. I was thinking it might just be easier to go direct to V1E. How long ago was it you got yours ?

2023!
I know sending stuff TO the USA has got a bit mad but the other way hasn’t changed much as far as I know.

Ok thanks. I’ve just ordered it from V1E. Shipping was Ā£26. Not bad.

I have a tiny bee. It is ok. I only have it because i had the steppers etc, and had a gift certificate. Trust me I still wish I went with the board from Ryan. Dont get me wrong, it works, but if you are buying steppers look at what it is and then look at Ryans. The only way it can maybe compare is if you are not in the u.S.
