That could add unwanted vibration to the collet resulting in rough cuts. Plus, with a 20000 rpm fan, you better be darn sure it’s strong enough so it doesn’t turn into shrapnel.
I suspect that’s why we haven’t see anything of it in the intervening five years. Could give rise to some interesting snags!
Yes, I’m thinking something along those lines - perhaps this could be the next two competitions (or design collab meetings?) - 1) Concept 2) Development of Concept!
I know that there are several versions of dust shoes and skirts working - I’d like to see them linked here too, perhaps with some thoughts on their strong and weak points?
Oh, and for those wondering how to trim bristles on your home made brushes:
I was thinking this too. Wiring a mirrored, but reversed Z motor would do it. It would be neat to just use a serial motor, but have a little hand lever to release or engage the leadscrew so you could quickly adjust the height, and then it would just do the opposite of Z after that.
@jeffeb3 the only drawback i could come up with was that you have 2 Z motors. If you serial on to one it could cause aome issues with lower current on one side.
Creating this, like the photo above without the motors would be quick and relatively easy.
With the building crisis, down here in Melbourne (builder going broke due to covid price increases) i might not have job for long, ( the boss got caught up in it and is going to have to close or will come close to it.)
so i might have time to do this, and maybe another idea to stiffen the gantry tubes… SIGH.
Using serial wiring with two motors and one driver does not halve the current. Using parallel wiring with two motors and one driver does. We have ran the double motors on one driver using serial wiring for a long time and we haven’t seen issues.
The one small issue is that the voltage is halved, but it is only the motor voltage. You will get more than enough headroom by switching to a 24V psu. But I doubt you would even notice with a 12V psu. And if you did, you could also just turn down the max Z speed.
I doubt any of this is really necessary. The dust boots we have work pretty well and cleaning up after a job takes a minute. It would take a lot of jobs to account for the increased complexity.
But it sure is fun to think about. And it would be neat to see done.
