The owl on the birch bark MPCNC

Years ago, after buying a 3D printer for my son (back in 2021), I printed and assembled an MPCNC using standard steel pipes—though, unfortunately, they eventually rusted. I rebuilt it using stainless steel pipes and, as it happened, my first project was a birthday gift for my mother. It is a very popular design in Russia; we call it “Sova na bereste.”
I used a tapered ball-nose end mill (1mm radius) and a 2mm “corn-tooth” (burr-style) roughing end mill from AliExpress.
I prepared the G-code using ArtCAM. I even modified the default template so that my RAMPS 1.4 controller could interpret it using Marlin firmware.

That is amazing! How did you do the top and bottom curl ?

There’s a greeting on the back, the content is too personal to post. I did the milling of the text before cropping along the contour. The workpiece was fixed with screws to a blackboard.

Hi everyone, I just joined to follow the discussions here. Looking forward to learning from this community.

It’s an optical illusion. The workpiece is machined on one side; on the other, I simply rounded it off with sandpaper to give it a round shape.

Hi everyone, I just joined to follow the discussions here. Thanks for having me!

That is fantastic! Very nicely done! I am still looking for the right thing to carve. I just got a beautiful piece of black walnut for it.

Welcome to the forum and a beautiful piece! I can see why this style became traditional. Is it carved into birch wood?

The material used was a tread made of pine from a hardware store. I probably went through about 30 of them before I could choose a decent one. Pay attention to the video — it was filmed more than 9 years ago. When the mpcnc project was taking its first steps. But thanks to Ryan, this is now accessible to almost everyone.

Wow!!!

You can find this at google with “animals 4349 cnc-info”. I cant yet download file here as newbe

That is awesome! One day I will make something awesome like this too! Thanks for inspiring me!
