The not raspberry pi touch screeng

Putting together “features” on my second v5 printer build and i bought a touch screen.:

Unlike the last one, this one is actually “supposed” to be a touch screen and will hdmi connect to my pi5.

However… It just flashes on and off as i try to get klipper to display klipperscreen on it. Is it browning out or is it a display resolution problem? The previous screen displayed fine, so the output port is working. The touch screen runs a non native 1024x600 resolution and requires some setup to function, but im not finding success on getting it to display. Any ideas?

Ive tried editing config.txt as well as the cmdline.txt file and it didnt help. Maybe it is a bad screen. Anyone else try this one?

I can’t speak to the 7” screen you’ve linked, but I recently put 5” elecrow touch screens on the 2 pi 3b+ mcu’s running klipper on my two 3d printers and klipperscreen “just worked” with those just fine. It does require both the hdmi and usb ports be connected, which looks to be the same for your 7” screen. If so, make sure you didn’t accidentally use a “charge only” usb cable.

Looking through the klipperscreen documentation, there are some troubleshooting steps around getting permissions right, and you have the choice to choose between 2 different window managers when setting it up. I’m using the Xorg server. You might want to try the other, but it seemed more experimental so I didn’t go down that road.

Large enough power supply on the Pi to support the screen power over USB?

Good call - I ended up adding powered USB hubs to each of my machines. They managed the screen okay but when I started adding the 2 cameras each I started getting warnings. The pi 5 may manage more current than my 3B+s do, but the 7” screen probably draws more power than the 5” ones I’m using.

The screen has 2 usb ports. One i will plug into the wall. The other is data only. I had one cable that connected to 2 usb ports. The thing is that the other non touch works just fine.
