The dark humor with a dark subject

Long story short. I have had alot of death in my life the last 3 years. First my step mom(or I liked to call her bonus mom), then my mom, then my dad. There was a bad meme that pulled me from my funk when my mom’s died.

A guy walks into a coffe shop

Customer: Can I have a medium roast please.

Barrista: You look ugly in that shirt.

Customer: A dark roast then.

Barrista: Good thing your moms dead so she can’t see how ugly you look in that shirt.

My dad died and I got some money’s and bought the LR4 kit. And as I hit the buy button today in a deep loud voice in my living room I said.

“ And from your ashes Father, a machine of greatness shall be birthed”

A pointless story to hopefully bring a laugh in your life because it would have made my dad laugh.

So sorry for all the losses. For me, the past decade was the worst decade, and the last half of that was the worst five years, and the last year of that (2025) was worst year. Loss after loss after loss (not just deaths, but a lot of those, including my dear Mama 8 years ago, but because I am a full-time pastor, a lot of church related deaths too). But we’re still here.

I lost both my parents within a few months of each other. When I was told about the second my immediate thought was that Oscar Wilde line;
‘To lose a parent is a misfortune. Losing two begins to look like carelessness’
It’s a stress response I suppose, and very much part of my culture.

This is legitimately such a sick line lol I laughed AND went “ooo that’s good…”

To quote the late, great Jimmy Buffet “If we couldn’t laugh, we’d all go insane”

PSA for anyone going through life: you should really look into therapy! I started it a couple months ago and my life has improved dramatically. It’s literally just chilling with a nice person who hears you out and goes “damn, yeah you have been through some shit! Keep telling me about it” and the next thing you know, you feel a million times better! You can look for “behavioral therapist” in your health insurance app (for the Mericans), I personally went through thriveworks.com and they made it all super easy  I include the details on finding a therapist because everybody says how great it is, but nobody explains how to get started lol.

For me, it’s too recent to laugh but, I know the laughter will come. Thanks for reminding me of that!

My dad sold life insurance for a living. Death was a daily comedic subject in our life.

Even talking to my mom yesterday for her birthday, my mom was telling me about the calendar book she has that she keeps everyone’s birthday, marriage, and death dates in.

Dad from the other room: “You have me in that book?”
Me: “We have the date, just not the year! I Chose April, but everyone else vetoed me with July. They want to go water skiing with our day off from work after we bury you.”
