Thinking about using this as a base with unistrut going perpendicular across the top with mdf mounted to the unistrut. Thoughts??

Haha, yup!
I have some of those shelves in my basement.
I might add some more cross bracing depending on if the table wobble at all. Little bits of wobble movement could impact the precision of the LR2.
