table holes

I am thinking about making a grid of holes to the table, to be able to place the tools to hold the pieces with which I will work. Is there any standard for this? That is, should the holes be made each a certain amount of centimeters or something like that?

If you pre-drill them it would be based off your clamp bar size/length. Most of us just screw directly to the spoil board.

I made a 600mm x 450mm work area
I placed holes starting at 25,25 and then in a 50x50 grid
My work surface is an awesome (thankfully free) 25mm thick aluminum plate
I am eventually drilling and tapping all of the holes as I need them.
Before I got the aluminum plate, I did the same thing in a 25mm board.
Drilling and tapping in the wood worked well too
