i´m new to this forum and still in the “gathering parts” phase of the build.
As i live in Germany i can not get the Dewalt at a reasonable price. But Lidl offers a straight grinder (PARKSIDE® Geradschleifer PGS 500 A1) for just under 20 Euro.
Has anybody ever tried this exact machine or another straight grinder?
Of course they do not give any specs for runout or noise but the weight, speed control and price are all very tempting…
As far as I understand these grinders are too fast and not powerful enough to do good cuts.
Nonetheless I think if you have one around, it can be used to do small tests (on foam ?) for example while waiting for a better spîndle/router.OTOH, the Makita 3700 or 3709 seem to be an alternative to the dewalt routers (right other EU guys ?)
I have ordered the grinder now out of curiosity. It has a speed range of 4500-30000 rpm at 500W, just like the Makita or Dewalt so it should be powerful enough. I am more worried about runout and noise. If it would work it would be a steal though… To really try it out i will have to finish my build, that will take at least six more weeks. As soon as i have more info i will follow up.
Have you tried it then?
I read that the rpm drop to a halt under load, especially at the lower end.
I have a Kress 800W motor but would need some cheap motor for some other project.
Wonder if you have tried it with 1/8" bits.
