steel tube (black pipe)

Has anyone use these then the conduit tubing? I know the price is a bit more but you don’t have the flex?

Adds a crapton of weight, and there’s no parts designed for that diameter.

I want build one the is 46x56. The steel pipe is 1 inch od and 3/4 od. I just make this thing to hold up.

Go feel it. EMT is far more rigid and 1/3 the weight.

Do I need to add any supports. I dont have a 3d printer.

For that size, I’d go with a lowrider. I had a mpcnc a smidge bigger than that for a while. I had to add midspan supports. I used allthread for the supports.

I thought of low rider but I didn’t know what was the max thickness of material I could have under it. I mean the most from me would like 3-4 inches do some 3d craving.

Far more rigid? I had something similar at my local steel shop in hand, and a 10ft piece seemed like it had zero flex when I shook it around and pressed it against the wall. It was the .120 wall stuff, though. Not too late for me to find some stainless instead, but I had the same impression as Jason (by the way, Jason, what was the wall thickness on the stuff you’re looking at?)

What is it that I’m not taking into consideration here? I mean, I’m kind of a smart guy, but certainly no engineer.

I dont know off hand it was at homedepot.

This is a piece of 2X10. I can raise it up a couple more inches I believe.
