Locally I can find 1" SS tubing that is 11 gauge which is almost double the .065 recommended. I assume that would be too heavy for the Lowrider. Am I correct?
Thanks,
Dan

It will work, probably need to slow down a bit and maybe lower the accelerations, depending on how big you build it.
I’m building a full 4x8 sheet router so it will be pretty big. I will probably keep looking for lighter stock.
Thanks!
I have a full 4x8 LR2 and I’m using 0.120 thick SS Tube with no issues. I generally cut in the 15mm/s range and haven’t missed a step yet or had anything go wrong due to cutting speed. Ryan designed us a tank! Just make sure your table is square and super rigid (any flex in the table itself from the mass of the gantry moving will be amplified). I’m guessing my table (without the gantry) probably weighs around 350 pounds with all the lumber and bracing I have on it. It doesn’t flex at all and I think that’s a big part of the reason it doesn’t give me any issues.
After checking with steel fabricators and supply shops in the area I finally found the perfect stuff at Speedway Motors.

I didn’t have to pay shipping because it was local but might be an option for other who can’t find tubing.
Just so you know that material is seamed exhaust pipe. I may be misunderstanding but I think you specifically want seamless tubing for this build.
As long as a bearing doesn’t ride on the seam, it’s fine.
I can’t find a noticeable seam and they have been working great for a couple months now so I think it would be a safe option for people.
