Spindle in Europe - upwards compatible

Hello,

I am interested to build a Mostly Printed CNC.

However I also want to build a much larger CNC in the future.
If at all possible I want to use the same tools.

Is there a mpcnc-compatible spindle that uses an ET20 collet?

Or is that a stupid idea for some reason?

thanks
Daniel

or er16 if that is easier?

Blank tool mount files are available, so it’s possible to accommodate whatever spindle you may find.

I know that generic mounts for 52mm, 55mm and 65mm spindles are already done. (The Makita router mounts as a generic 65mm) The Chinese spindles are typically 52mm and 55mm. Those are fairly generic sizes. The DeWalt mount is more specialized.

It should not be too difficult to manage mounts for any spindle that you’re going to want. It might be more difficult to have program control over the spindle speed, but most that I’ve seen will have some sort of a manual control, which is probably good enough for most MPCNC work.
