Snow day question

Why is my roughing pass leaving so much material for my finishing pass?

Is it leaving more than. The .5mm allowance with a #2.5 to 3mm stopover?

yeah its in the pics. the amount left on the Z is nuts.

You are using two different tools. I suspect the first tool has a large stepdown, that is leaving 0.5mm at some part of that path. I bet if you play with a smaller stepdown it will give a little finer resolution on where to leave material.

I bet these three spots are at 0.5mm.

Smaller first tool stepdown and just move faster to compensate for lost time.

I was at pretty basic settings. what would you recommend? also I cant 100% guarantee these were the settings on my cut because I upgraded estlcam and uninstalled the old one without backing up my settings. Genius move right?

I don’t carve very much to have solid suggestions and it changes drastically with each type.

In the end the finishing pass with a tiny step over probably does not care much about all the extra material.

You can do half the step-down at twice the feedrate, and keep the finishing settings. That might have much less roughing left over. You can also try waterline instead of parallel for roughing.

Oh man, that looks good. I only had one snow day this year and now it is gone for the most part. I hope we get some snow soon or I am coming out there and riding with you.

We’ve had snow for a few weeks now. Not much, but always a bit. Hadn’t happened in years.
