Small DIY CNC. Need facing 3mm shank facing drillbit

My small DIY CNC is ready to use. Fisrt job is to make a spoilboard and I need facing drillbit with 3mm shaft. Have been looking everywhere but unable to find such a bit.

Any ideas where to find or what tu use instead of a proper facing bit.

We need more information to give any advice. What router are you using? What material are you working with, and what size stepper motors ?

Hi Larry and thank you for the answer.

I have bulit a version of the DIY Dremel CNC by Nikodem Bartnik.

Using a Dremel 4000 as router. Material is MDF and stepper motors are NEMA 17.

I realize that the router can’t take any amount of load and need to have realy thins cuts each time going over the stock. Have tried now with an 1/8 flat one flute endmill and that works but will take forever even if the work area is really small.

The problem I have is to find any alternatives for 1/8 shank with a bit bigger cutting area. I’m in Sweden btw.

Easy solution: upgrade to a LowRider 4. :stuck_out_tongue:

OK thanks for that solution suggestion. I opted for the solution I choosen because part of the experience is the building process, my space is limited to the desktop size and wanted to keep the cost down. Don’t really know what I’ll be using the machine for once in proper operational state. Maybe the LowRider is the next project.

Stay with it. You will gain experience, never a bad thing. Decades ago I made a small dremel cnc. At the time and I think it still stands, the bits Dremel sells work best for the tool. I think the rectangle shape cutters worked as well as you could hope around mid speed. Mine was variable speed. Projects were mostly 6x6 inch. I was quite happy with the results. It will do nice ingraving, even on glass
