Should I be able to move the bottom of the core off the rail?

I’m not having any problems, but noticed I could do this today. See video for example.

Should the core tension bolts be tighter or adjusted differently?

In short, no, you should not be able to do that! Something is definitely in need of attention!

In interesting and only mildly related news, imgur.com’s analysis falsely thinks your video is erotica. ???

Yeah not sure why, I didn’t choose the over 18+. If there is somewhere better to upload video I can change it

One option is to upload to YouTube, and mark the video as unlisted, so it can be posted here as a link that will make it show in the forum thread.

These two bearings on the back of the core aren’t doing anything. They don’t engage with the rail. All the others are.

These two were very loose and now the core is tight.

Wonder what I broke by fixing that lol

From the docs…

I’m at the point now where I also need to go mess with that and get it right

Sorry I meant tight where it doesn’t lift off the rails anymore. If feels smooth riding the x axis. I think I have it right, but I ran it for many many hours loose.

and come on, Mike. You didn’t expect me to read all the docs? lol

lol…I read that section 10 times at least in the last 2 days…so it was right at the tip of my tongue.

But I’m glad you posted, because I was a little unsure about it, so it’s good to see that tightening those worked

Those are the bolts that adjust core tension.

Those just need to tighten enough so that the loose bolts just touch the rail. That is the adjustment allowance. Check every few times you use the machine that those are still appropriately adjusted.

I think when I built the machine I thought the other two were the adjustment bolts.

Thanks for confirming. I’ll check it again after a bit

Aren’t those bolts reversed ? You should have the bolt head accessible, not the nut

Nope, that’s correct there. You have the nuts accessible.

Indeed that’s the orientation shown in the manuel, sorry

Seems wrong to me though, because if you have round heads, you’ll need an Allen key + spanner to adjust, rather than a single tool

Yeah but who’s got round heads…

Ha… me … on every single one of them :stuck_out_tongue:
I had “classical” hex head on the LR2 ans I can testify the flat round heads are so much nicer to work with…
You only ever need an allen key, no more wrench (unless there’s no trap for the nut, eg. the braces if you printed the original ones)
Plus they’re very low profile so it’s easy to ensure they dont stick out
