Shop Vac Hose Too Stiff

This is probably an annoying/helpless sounding question, but I bought a shop vac hose off of amazon (Amazon.com) and it is too stiff to even allow the X axis to travel home. Is this common for a brand new hose? I did zip tie the one end about 1/4 way up. I know they recommend a 2.5inch shop vac hose in the instructions and I didn’t think this was much different. Is it possible to order too stiff of a hose or do I just need to wait for it to loosen up since it arrived in a tight coil?

In my experience it’s definitely possible to have a hose that’s too stiff. On my LR4, I first tried that orange hose that’s pretty heavy walled. Far too stiff. Then I tried a version that i got from our local Woodcraft. Still too stiff. Then tried some that I had from other dust collection projects. Same problem.

Finally, I ordered this from Amazon:

This is not cheap, but it’s working very well. And, 20 ft is enough that it can folllow the gantry from one end to the other of my 6’ long machine.

Note that I’m not using the clamps but designed and printed some threaded inserts for the ends of the hose. It’s a press fit into the standard router dust shroud and at the shop vac end.

I’m using this one from Amazon, quite possibly the same manufacturer as @dwkisker referenced, though in a shorter length

I’m pretty sure it’s the same one. I guess I should post the threaded end pieces so folks don’t have to fool with the clamps.

My design is in Onshape, so modifications are pretty easy if you need different size connectors for the shopvac. Being able to just thread the connector onto the hose is very convenient.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll just have to get the larger one and use an adapter to my size. @dwkisker, are you able to share the link to your design in onshape?

It should be possible, but I’ve not done a lot of that. It IS a public file, but at the moment I don’t remember what the search term should be. I’ll try to get back to you.

Try this:

I should warn you that I do a TON of just fiddling around in Onshape so there are several designs in this document. But, the good news is that this appears to be a parametric design so that the threaded part should fit the hose and then you may be able to tweak the other side to fit your shop vac or router adapter. Still, doing test prints to do the final design makes sense.

Hopefully, it will work for you somehow.
