What are your Shop Goals? Are you wanting to make upgrades to your space? Upgrades to your tools/ equipment?
My main goals are clean and decluttered. I currently lack sufficient time and motivation to get there.
Currently working on upgrading my LR3 to a full sheet cutting space so I can more easily cut some cabinets that the wife wants done in our pantry. That and the never ending work to keep the shop clean. Debating about a LR4 upgrade, but my 3 is working fine so far
currently moving to a new shop, bigger, still a S|-|it ton of work to do
Electric work: DONE ( still need to mount a couple of extractors and hang the dust collection hoses/ports that will do as soon as the cnc’s layout is finished)
Finish and wire the Lr4 builds, and dismantle everything from the shop and move
place the chopsaw and mitter saw on its benches, place the table saw peek
At the moment, I wish I had a workshop…
Soon I’ll start working on my shop again. Still need to finish hooking up electric. Then I can move a bunch of stuff out there including my LR3. Then run outlets and lights and sheet the inside. Then I need to make some work benches and cabinets and other organization stuff. I plan to upgrade my LR3 to an LR4 later this year, probably with a new table. Looking like a busy year.
man, getting the electric part up to code when you are diy your own shop, its a nightmare, more so when you make your power to run with a hybrid solar system
I have no problem running outlets and lights, but I avoid panel boxes other than flipping breakers. Fortunately for me, my dad is helping with the electric (well I guess I’m helping him). He has a big garage with a machine shop including a bunch of 3 phase equipment that he did all the wiring for (and it passed inspection).
100%!!! I am doing the three steps forward, two steps back dance. I clean it up pretty good, make a giant mess, clean it up again.
I have a much larger inside shop now and I have yet to really spread out, feels inefficient, but that should probably be my focus.
And https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKBme6x went south in ease of installation once all wires were in it started simple but maaaaan
I’m using this. It’s looking like 3 110v 20 amp circuits and a 220v 30 amp circuit with some room to grow. There’s a 100 amp breaker for the panel box in my house. I have the wire run underground between my house and shop but it’s not hooked up yet.

Cleaning up my mess in the second room is pretty high up on the list as well, also storage for my automatic feed and elongated hole driller (does that exist?).
I’d also like to have a big stationary belt/rotary sander (mine is 125mm at the moment, I am looking at a 500mm one) and a non-diy-drum sander. A jointer would also be nice… But eh, I have to be a bit more humble…
I’m still wanting to add a metal lathe and maybe a propane furnace for casting.
I’ve gone away from most CNC stuff and have come back to more manual labor. The MPCNC was recently torn down to make room for both 3d printers. I still have thoughts/ideas about a 4’x4’ CNC. I have ball screws, rods, and a 1.5kw spindle for that, but no immediate plans to start down that project.
I am in talks with the wife about purchasing the empty plot of land next to us to build a dedicated shop. She gets the garage back and I get my dream shop.
Because I have so many different disciplines that I tinker with, it needs to be well thought for sure. Wood working, knife making, welding and fabrication, automotive, 3d printing and cnc… plus who know what else I decide to mess with.
I need a “clean” area for engine/transmission building, that can also house computers and sensitive machines such as 3d printers.
I need a fire safe dirty area for welding grinding forging and such.
I absolutely need a lift big enough to lift my truck for working on vehicles.
I have a gantry crane now, but that needs to be included in the new shop.
CarmenJ, I love these posts. I am learning so much about our users. Thank you so very much for fun and lighthearted subjects. Keeping people interested and getting them to share a bit more!
Awww…Thank you so much for the kind words!!! I really enjoy doing them. As well as learning tidbits about everyone. I do hope others find them interesting and somewhat entertaining and that more will jump in and participate! To those that have participated, I appreciate you very much and look forward to your further comments!!
I really love that I don’t have to be the nosy one and still get all the nice tidbits about everyone.
My winter shop is in a tiny basement corner. It needs just a bit more space to fit a second 3d printer. It is basically a 3’ bench space with 3d printer on one end and an lr4 if you turn around. Most work in there is soldering, printing, and cnc… The big plan/dream is to add a third garage bay and get it all up there in a heated space…
My wife just asked the question, what are our plans for the garage? When we moved into the house the plan was one half for a van the other half work shop…I took over the whole garage. Tools, scrap wood, and shelves on one side and the LR2 on the other with everything’s else in front. So now its time to compress and clean. Long term is to either blow out a side wall and expand the garage or build a tall 12x12 shed to house the LR4
Holy cow!!! How big is your machine?
