Curious if sheetcam can be run on the lowrider with a router attached for engraving. Using nest and cut and estlecam now but would like to reduce to 2 programs instead of 3.
It takes in dxf and outputs gcode so I guess so.
What does it do that estlcam doesn’t?
I have looked nesting on estlcam and haven’t found any information on it. I am trying to eliminate the need for a separate nesting program.
Looking into this a bit I notice Sheet cam is specifically designed for CrossFire plasma machines and in their bullet points I came across this -
Can I use my CrossFire PRO as a wood router?
The Floating head Z axis was specifically designed for plasma use only and is not compatible with a wood router.
If you are limiting your use to engraving at a single, set Z height then this might not be a problem.
Caveat emptor!
Ah, ok. I mean you can open more than one dxf in estlcam and move toolpaths about but there’s no auto nesting as far as I know. I use deepnest.io for nesting but that’s not much help if you’re looking to eliminate programs not add more.
Dreyfus. Thank you for the heads up on deepnest. Very easy to use and no need to give an email every 30 days.
Deepnest works great for many things, and the price is certainly right. However I did find when trying to nest several STL files into a single sheet (custom LR3 struts with fancy text font), that it didn’t recognize some of the text as closed paths, so EstlCAM couldn’t process it (EstlCAM would process the individual non-nested files). For basic shapes it should be fine.
