Share your V1E machines/history? (was: Mike's V1 Engineering machine number 5! 😊)

All,

These are the V1E machines I’ve had:

  1. MP3DP version 2 (given to me and was never able to get it tuned). Torn to pieces in frustration!
  2. MPCNC Primo my first full build, my friend printed the parts for me. Given to a friend, he loves it.
  3. LR3 (orange and silver) with all parts printed by my Ender 3 v2
  4. LR3 (Baby Blue) all the parts printed on my Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro

Now number 5: LR4 with parts printed on the Elegoo N4P.

(There is another V1E project that has been hidden in a dark corner for a while: ZenXY. Maybe next fall)

I will take apart the “baby” and repurpose the parts to the LR4. I’ll keep the orange one together long enough to cut the struts and a glider panel project that has been long delayed (Pilot can’t make up his mind as to instrument arrangement).

So at last I get in on all the LR4 fun. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time and even though flying season is fast upon us, my wife will be gone for a week so now is a good time.

I’m mostly following the yellow brick road here with the full sheet approach. I have an existing workbench that is flat “enough” and I’ll make some removable side “wings” to extend the width.

Pictures to follow as soon as the Core print finishes in 18 hours.

Mike

Wow, sounds awesome, both history wise and the current project. (All sounds awesome except the first part about frustration. Been there with a CO2 laser, but I finally got its mirrors aligned and eventually its faulty tube replaced.)

Congratulations on number 5! I just had to think about it for a minute to count up how many I have had lol…

LR2 Full Sheet (sold to a friend)
MPCNC Primo (still have as dedicated Diode Laser)
LR3 Full Sheet (torn down to rebuild as LR4)
LR3 3’ x 5’ (became LR4 beta test and then sold to a friend)
LR4 Beta 3’ x 5’ (sold)
LR4 Full Sheet (my workhorse)
MP3DP V4 (still in use but down at the moment)
MP3DP V5 (still in use and currently printing)
Zen v2 Parts Kit and Printed Parts (not yet assembled)

Man, those fanboys are crazy.

Ouch!

I bet your excited to build another one. I’m convinced that’s why we all do this. Not to use the machine, but to build them. Enjoy it!

heh, I stopped counting.

Let me see…

MPCNC Primo, bought printed parts from the shop. (Count 1)

Used that and my 3D printer to make z
ZenXY V1. Had problems with that, and ended up beta testing the ZenXY v2. Then I made another ZenXY V2. (Count 4)

Then I made an MP3DP v2 for one of my kids. (Currently here for repair, possible replacement.) Count 5.

Then I made a LowRider V2. Bought the printed parts again. By now, confident that I could have printed them, but bought them. (Count 6)

Beta program LR3, scavenged much from the LR2. Count 7

MP3DP v3. Plywood frame. The CF rails failed kn me and I replaced them with 1mm thick aluminum. That part is still working, but the fan ports on the SKR Pro aren’t, and I haven’t replaced the board, even though I have another one sitting here. Count 8

MP3DPv4 extrusion frame. I was actually going to make another v3, I quite like it with the aluminum tube rail, but, onwards and upwards. This printer is the onlynkne Ibget consistently good TPU prints from, for whatever reason. Count 9

Beta/RC2 → RC3 LR4. Why stop now? New build, not scavenging from the LR3. Count 10.

And on the table?

Well, there is going to be the upgrade of the LR3 to LR4. I bought the aluminum plates for it, but it’s slow going, I’ve been trying to decide on the colour scheme, lol. Since the LR3 in question is a very pretty one.

Another ZenXYv2 just waiting on the glass. This will go into my desk.

MP3DPv5. I have the frame pieces cut, plastic printed, motors ready, rails ready (still need to cut the X and Y rails for the 300x300 size, which is the holdup.

Well, now that I think about it, some of those machines I no longer have. I disassembled the ZenXY v1 and the LR2 to build their successors, and one ZenXY v2 was a gift to a friend.

For builds, I got about 90% done another
Primo for a 16"x16" cut area, but never put the electronics into it, or actually fixed it to a table (and requisite squaring.)

MPCNC Burly (torn down for rebuild to Primo)
MPCNC Primo (traded for FLSUN SR)
Lowrider V3 (in progress)
MP3DP V1 (gave up)
MP3DP V4 (in use and prints better than all my other printers)
MP3DP V5 (build in progress)

You need to make those plates pretty colors!

One day soon I am going to give this a shot!!! Thanks again for doing the write up!

I thought it was strange that people build so many of these, but it is like Ryan pedals dopamine for builders with the show and tell social part as well.

Mpcnc primo
Mpcnc primo rebuild smaller
Mpcnc primo rebuild with all new printed parts (2 or 3)

Mp3dp v4 300x300x400
Mp3dp v5 from v4 upgrade. Last primo upgrade and all following systems printed with this v5.

Lowrider v4 beta
Lowrider v4 rc3
Lowrider v4 release (rebuild from primo parts) - primo printed parts donated to another user

In progress: mp3dp v5 200x200x300 enclosed for exotic materials

So depending on if you count existing systems in possession (2), functioning systems deployed (4) or systems built/assembled (9).

That seems crazy, but the first primo rebuild basically funded all the rest with the products it made.

I got caught up in the story missing the point: @mbamberg great news on the LR4 build. I’m sure you will be pleased with it.

@orob
With this thread utterly hijacked, I’ll start another with the “Actual” build

Sheesh!
