That shipment arrived, I’m about to unpack it. I’m like a kid about to open holiday gifts. Ryan somehow can package 20 litres of goods into a 10 litre box. I’ll need to figure out how to re-package for my trip to SMRRF.
Yes he can!!! When the day finally comes that I get to meet him in person, he is giving me a course on how to package stuff!!! ![]()
@vicious1 - we never discussed if anything is embargoed for the show, but I don’t believe anything is. Yell if not.
I had a visit from the ghost of maker fairs future this evening:
Izzy the maker kitty found the table skirt absolutely irresistible- and insisted in helping with its’ layout for photos. She’s generally underwhelmed with most of my machines, but whoa nelly does she like that table skirt! I"ll need to bring some binder clips or something to manage it down to the smaller size of the SMRRF table.
SWAG!!
Product packaging for shipment. Always such a nice, orderly, fully utilized box
How does Ryan fit a full LR4 printed parts set and then some in that one small box?
@Tokoloshe - It occurred to me this evening (I’m apparently a bit challenged grokking this whole outreach thing!) that we should make some link on the v1e home page and maybe have a QR code or something for folks wanting to source parts from you. Duh.
Let’s chat about what I should have available for that…
Hmm… Thing is that the UK not being part of the EU makes it nearly as expensive to ship stuff to as from America. So it’s not really that interesting for UK customers at least.
There might be other Europeans though… Hmm…
Grrr. Against the wishes of many of us.
I would be happy to hold stock locally for Ryan/you, if shipping in bulk batches swings the economics into making sense?
After I shipped your box I got in some picnic table clips I plan on bringing to RMRRF.
Ohhhhhh, that piece of gray filament should have been in the YZ plate Y motor hole…Did I miss that or did it pop out…dang. Not perfect, sorry.
Nope I moved it before the picture, I noted the arrangement as a “hmmm, that’s nice.” Then I took the picture after I moved it. Same with the box the table skirt was in. Skirt came out, then I took the picture.
The cat was already doing the superhero kitty leap to check out the table skirt by that point.
OK folks, not sure I can arrange this given I’m take a stop in Germany on the way in.
Though, I was debating grabbing something like a bottle or two of “Ass in antarctica” hot sauce…
From the CEO:
Oh man, that is awesome. I am not good with stuff that hot, but I do enjoy watching others think they are.
Some Rocky Mountain Oysters would be perfect. But I have no idea how you would get them to the UK.
First thing I thought of !!
Especially with a 1-day layover in Germany.
Nothing in the world I could think of being worse to feed someone than 2-day old Rocky Mountain Oysters after an international flight and a days’ layover.

Hmmm… I wonder if I reached out to one of the famous local places if I could wrangle something up… This is going to keep me up at night thinking.
Have any suggestions for a likely willing co-conspirator from a local reknowned RMO hawker? Maybe The Fort in Morrison?
Ooooh or… maybe… Doesn’t the Wynkoop have an RMO stout?
Edit: Yep! For example:
A ballsy stout. Surely the folks in the UK could make an attempt at that!
The stout is much kinder.
I wouldn’t tell them that ![]()
Oye…“After finishing fermentation, we put the wood to our ballsy brew to make it even more unique.” That is crafty wording.
Might be fun to watch them try ![]()

Basted on the discussion up above about the table size, below is a set of strut plate SVGs using Jamie’s generator .
(The SVG is embedded, it can be right-clicked and “save as” to get it back out.)
The plates were based on the following inputs:
X Usable cutting area: 621mm
Y Usable cutting area: 600mm
(Ryan’s XZ plates, 6.5mm thick)
X Rails (30mm tubing): 787mm
Y Rail (30mm tubing): 855mm
X belt: 970mm
Y belt (x2): 1055mm each
Table size 913mm by 913mm
SMRRF told me it was OK to slightly overhang the table as long as we make sure that we keep access for other tables, which should be no problem.
Obviously, this would use 5 braces total, 2 with high infill.
This instance of Jamies generator can be recreated with this link:
https://vector76.github.io/Web_OpenSCAD_Customizer/strut_plate.html?strut_length=790&num_braces=0&dogbones=3.5&front_plate=true&bottom_plate=true&front_wing_size=10.8
Anyone happen to have a neat 3D render (or real pic I can use) of a red-grayLR4 with a narrower gantry (non black strut)?

Current image am using (for offline v1e gallery tablet) is kinda wide relative to other machines…

Tried AI, didn’t go so well…
It’s always interesting to me what kind of outputs one gets from the various tools with the training that has been done. It’s just close enough that the quick glance is LowRider-esque. Then on further study, one notes “that’s mostly wrong.”
I’m never sure whether to be impressed that it gets close at all, or horrified that it gets so much wrong. Machine inference is such an interesting field of study and such a scary study in “almost, but not.”
One of these days I’m going to figure out a good workflow for how to make assemblies out of imported STLs in FreeCAD, I look on with interest when I see folks using Blender to do rendering of an LR assembly.
What kind of treat are you cooking up, Aza?
