Hey all! So this little project doesn’t actually have much to do with a V1 product, but I think it’ll still be appreciated ![]()
The goods:
I made an enclosure for my printer by simply attaching foam puzzle piece flooring into a little tower. Took like 20 minutes to put together and now I print flawlessly in the cold ass garage!
(Currently printing the top mount AMS Lite bracket, hence the extra tall.)
Back story:
I recently moved my A1 to the garage, turns out it is way too cold to print… my printer basically died by oozing filament all over the nozzle for hours.
Surprisingly, Bambu sells all the components at decent prices.. the extruder including motor was $35 and I had to get 2 hot end assemblies (I broke 2 due to cold weather), along with some nozles because I was not about to clean all that melted plastic lol.
I landed on the puzzle piece idea because I have a lot of puzzle pieces sitting around, and because I had already tried building one out of wood. TBF I made this purely by hand and out of scrap wood, though I did cut the side and top panels on the LR4
turns out its way easier to get a janky structure square if you CNC some square plywood to slap on it lol.
I tested it in there, seemed to work great. I let a job go over night and it once again oozed all over itself, and I once again had to slice into it with a dremmel and heat it up while pulling it off the hot end (this was the second time I broke it lol). It didn’t work out, and it took way too long, but it was fun just winging it on a project… but I rrrreally didn’t want to do it all over again, so I put it off until the puzzle piece idea hit me.
tl;dr
I didn’t have use of my printer for like a month and it really sucked. Spent so much time thinking of what to do. Figured out puzzle piece flooring is rigid when connected together, and holds in both heat and sound very well!
