Hi everyone! I finally decided to build a table. Thanks for all the great info. I have a quick question. If I can’t afford the TMC2209 Pen/Laser Controller, what are some alternatives? Please let me know the different options. Thanks.
any used 3d printer control board will work. They have at least 4 channels of stepper control and you only need 2 for the zenxy. Got a friend with a dead ender3… negotiate for that.
It doesn’t have to have a 2209 silent motor driver setup, but as a zen table, the sound reduction might add to the zen ambiance experience. One of the great things about this ecosystem is you can bring whatever parts you have and likely get them to work if they are functional parts. You may have to do some coding or custom configuration, but there is help here.
PM sent with a message about my spare Arduino-based CNC controller.

My ZenXY (beta pre-release) still uses a RAMPS stack with a pair of DRV8825 drivers.
I have used the Bart Dring TMC2209 pen control too, and a few others, I used a board from a dead 3D printer to test one while waiting for stuff to some in the mail.
