Questions about homing directions?

Hey all! I’ve yet to get a good cut in, but I think I sort of know why…?

When I home my X axis, it goes to 0 and hits the endpoint and stops, and I move it maybe 10mm and zero it.

When I home my Y axis it goes to the max and then stops. In my case it’s ~1220mm. But it’s at Y max.

Should my X go to 0 when I home, and my Y go to max?

Also, I think my gcode in estlcam is setting the X, Y and Z to 0 wherever I start it which is resulting in funky prints too.

I’m definitely doing some things wrong and could use advice, but I’m not sure where to start or what to google.

It should zero to bottom left and up.

If I am standing at the foot of the table with the core on the other side of the X gantry from me, it does top left and then of course Z is up.

What should I look at to figure out what I’ve got setup wrong here?

Start with taking a picture of your build, mark up which direction and location your build has X, and Y, note where you think home is, and which direction +X and +Y are.

I thought we got a picture like that put into the LR4 build instructions, but I’m not seeing it at the moment.

Sounds like your X is backwards?

If it’s backwards, just turn the connector at the board around…

…but make sure the Jackpot is turned off before disconnecting or connecting any of the motors. It may permanently inactivate the driver….

I think my Y is actually backwards. X hits max when it homes. Y hits min when it homes.

Thanks. I’ll do that when I get some time from work. Maybe that will make everything make a little more sense when I’m cutting things. :smiley: I assumed bottom left (form the way I took the picture) would be 0,0 normally, but I guess it seems like it should be bottom right?

or I guess I’m looking at it the wrong way, and I should be looking at it from the core side as the “front” and the top left would be 0,0 which makes a lot more sense.

Your picture is backwards to how we typically represent it, you are facing the rear X gantry.

If you are facing the front of your router (opposite side of the table from the picture) where your left hand is where home should be. That would be Y-min and X-min with also Z-max.

If you are homing to X-Max then your X is backwards.
