Primo Build in Atlanta

Hello all, I had been making updates in the huge Primo announcement thread but am finally listening to Jeff and creating a new topic.

So, here’s the latest pic (actually, see next message in topic since I can’t post multiple images per post yet)

And at this point I’m starting to lose momentum. Partly because work has been busy and partly because I’m not sure how to proceed. The rails aren’t square and I’m struggling a bit to figure out how to fix them.

You can see the left side has about 5mm extra space compared to the right side. (Not shown, the right side is set to exactly the ruler size shown here)

So that’s my specific current problem. In addition, I think I’m just generally nervous about getting all of the tension right. So many instructions around how tight or loose to make the screws, I’m sure I messed up some of them and I’m not sure it will be obvious to me which ones and how to fix.

Anyways, onwards! Any help with the squaring is welcome.

Stupid question since I am not as far with my build: Why not move the one foot where you have 5mm too much 5mm closer?

The feet are pretty much spot on where they need to be I think. And would create new problems if I moved them, I think. The same measurements on the other side of the x rail show the right side with the extra 5mm, so the x rail is crooked. I can twist the x rail using my hands and get it straight but when I let go it immediately twists back into a 3-5mm offset. I probably need to adjust some bolts somewhere.

We need to be able to just call discobot to explain the rules. There must be a command like that.

Anyway.

I’m not the mechanical guy, but I did proof read the instructions. I thought the trucks were supposed to be square before installing the center. Maybe take a look back through the truck section and see if there’s a step you missed.

The actual tension is going to differ based on your prints. The tension is to tune things in partly to compensate for varying printers or hardware.

I will look for a command that is from the the information page

@discobot start tutorial”

One thing I found in squaring my primo that really helps is to loosen the screw that clamps the gantry tube to the truck on both sides of the rail you are having problems with. Then torque the tube in the direction you need by pulling with one hand on the tube on one side of the gantry and pushing with the other hand on the tube on the other side of the gantry. Once you have the misalignment corrected, you can tighten down the tube to the trucks again. You won’t get 5 mm of misalignment out of your system just adjusted the tension bolts.
