Hopefully not a stupid question but I’m looking at the power supply line shown in one of the pics here:
and there’s not that wire to be had after the barrel plug is removed between the end of the wires and the ferrite core on my power supply. Since I see no evidence of the ferrite in the pic I’m wondering if that’s a different power supply or the ferrite core gets removed along with the barrel plug?
Just trying to figure a way of doing the wiring neatly.
So, is the ferrite bead necessary on the power cord? I’d like to shorten it if possible. I have some hinged ferrite beads saved from the past but unfortunately all for larger cable sizes.
Interestingly, I’m in the process of running wires and cut what I thought was a ferrite bead off the cord, I started slicing the molded plastic off thinking I’d hit ferrite and so far it appears to be simply molded plastic with no attraction to a magnet.
I absolutely loved JC Whitney…I had VW’s and they had all sorts of the needed parts, then all the fun bonus stuff. Forgot all about that…so freaking cool.
I always wanted one of the put a Corvair engine in your Beetle kits, 140HP in a bug woulda been a hoot, just never managed to have the time, $$$, and place to do it at the same time.
I broke way to many parts to know adding more power was a bad idea, 1641 dual carbs was as big as I got. Then realized a single carb was much easier to deal with. I loved them until I drove something with disk brakes, then I always felt unsafe. If I ever win the lottery I will get another bus (and add disk brakes).
My first car was a Corvair convertible, loved that car. Now that I think about it when I get my MPCNC up and running a worthy first project may well be something suitably derogatory about a certain Mr. Nader.
