Plywood cabinets without single flute endmills or estlcam

Hi all

Here are some cabinets that I’m making with LR4
they are made from oak veneer poplar core plywood and will be finished with osmo oil

I’ve designed them in FreeCAD and used my own fork of purecutcnc to do the CAM (zerg32/purecutcnc at wip/all-three-features) I’ve added some missing features like helical drilling, ramp entry and round tabs like estlcam has. Code is quite easy to modify using an AI agent. I’ve used free version of opencode to do all my changes.

The interesting thing is that I’m using a 3 flute 6mm roughing serrated endmill for aluminum and a compression end mill for the finishing pass

cut parameters are 2500mm/min and 4mm step down. between 2 and 3 on the makita clone dial

Interesting, and these look great! I think you said in another thread that you got the serrated endmill from aliexpress - do you have a link?

the ones that I’ve ordered are no longer available at the same shop but search for 3 flute aluminium roughing endmill and you’ll find them

the cost of carbide jumped several times in last year so they were much cheaper before

my ones are 18mm cutting edge length so be carefull when cutting full flute length. when i cut 18mm plywood i set the stock thickness to 18.5 and cut per pass to 4mm. That leaves 2.5mm for the last pass when the flutes are completely in the cut to help with chip evacuation

I’m also using a big vacuum with double motors that helps with chip clearing

the other good thing that those endmills are quite resilient. it didnt even notice that it trimmed some screws. that was quite lite cut but still no visible damage to endmill or lost steps

there is a lot of chips in the cut because that was on the edge of the stock and the dust shoe was not making a good seal so a lot of vacuum was lost.
