Planning to build a new MPCNC...

Below is a picture of my 525 MPCNC setup:

It has a 30"x20"x5" volume, and most of the time there is an elevated work bed in there to get it up to the gantry. I’ve never been overly happy with the fit and general durability of the EMT. It is difficult to find EMT that’s round enough and of the right OD to work, and then when you do, it flats out over time! Plus I have a local supplier for SS that ends up being silly cheap.

So i’m thinking of building a 1" OD burly MPCNC in an enclosure with about the same XY but 2.5"-3" of Z and buying a DW611. My question is, what should I do with the 3/4" MPCNC? The enclosed MPCNC will not be able to pass through long pieces and would be easier to use for some tasks that I only do once in a great while.

I wouldn’t go with a DW611 unless you’re going to be building a Low Rider instead of a Burly MPCNC. The DW611 adds a fair amount of weight without giving you much additional power. The DW660 likely can push through anything you are going to do. Without replacing the router, your biggest expenses are mostly already covered with the reused parts.

If you decide you really can’t put the old one to sleep, try something radical! Maybe a 0x16" with the X steppers set to move a board side to side on rollers? That’d give you nearly unlimited X travel and open up all kinds of different possibilities.
