Personalized Letter Coin Bank - red oak, plexiglas, made with LR4

A lady in our church commissioned me to make these for two of her grandsons. Red oak, plexiglas, made with LR4.

The deep pockets and deep profile cuts meant both that I had the bit sticking out more than normal, which meant going with more conservative depth of cut and feed rate, and that I still had to complete the profile cut with a bandsaw pass followed by a flush trim bit on the router table. It also meant the finishing pass had to be done in two passes, as the cutting blade portion of the bit was not enough to cover it all in the first pass. This also meant the smooth part of the bit slightly burnished the upper part of the wood during the second finishing pass. As always, mistakes were made, the product is usable because of little repairs made. On projects like this I have found that a big part of success is not being able to do it perfectly, but being capable of repairing what you’re working on to fix/hide mistakes.

These are available on Etsy for a price too low for me to compete with, but this lady in our church preferred for me to make them.

That’s a great idea, I love it. Perfect technique for making a donation box/fundraiser collection box too.

Yes, I’ve seen these kind of things at weddings / wedding receptions!
