Painting your MPCNC

Hey all, new to the forum but have been trolling for a long time. I’m finally getting around to building mine, but a question popped up I couldn’t seem to find an answer to.

Painting your mpcnc. specifically the conduit, and smaller parts in Z.

How much does painting your conduit (and other bits) affect tolerances along the axis. like… I won’t be laying it on thick, but I imagine a proper job could add a mili or two to the OD. By proper job, I mean primer, 1-3 coats, and a sealer. also what does the wear look like on your pipes after a bit of use? how much paint is removed, etc?

as well, on your printed parts. those too.

So just looking for other people’s input that have painted their mpcnc.

Thanks!

The paint will come right off in little 1/8" stripes, the point load is extremely high. I chemically etched my stainless and even that is gone in the first few passes.

ok, that’s kind of what I figured. so expect lines in the pipes.

what about the fit? bearings to pipes, pipes to 3d parts, etc.

It will change nothing as it will not be there after one pass.
