I always thought you were British, judging by the name and profile picture.

I’m 100% British  Born and raised in Liverpool, but I’ve lived in the Bay Area since '96

Just got our booth location, going to be at D18-19:

Stoked they gave us extra space so we can do cutting demos too. We’ll see how long that lasts before it becomes too much of a ruckus though hahah.

Another Opensauce in the books. Such a fun time as always. I somehow feel both energized and exhausted at the same time hahah.

Super stoked to be able to cutting demos at this year’s event. I thought they might shut me down after a couple go’s at it, but the battle bots station was smashing TVs a couple booths over so no one seemed to care. Went through the entire event without a hiccup! Well actually the Z endstop wire came off towards the end (good QC thing to note…), so I had to manually close the circuit for the Z-homing step… Good times. But we cut a bunchhh of little Compass logos:

Plus a whole lot more that people took home with them.

It was a fun time fangirling over some YouTubers too. Thomas Sanladerer and CNC kitchen stopped by the booth for a while, plus JLaser and the gang. Colin Furze actually came by at the end when I was down to my last piece of MDF stock, and I let him take the machine for a spin (you can see the sad little z endstop wire taped to the side here).

We happened to be right next to Excessive Overkill’s booth this year too, which is consistently my favorite booth to check out over the years. They are really mad geniuses. Last year they brought a real life aim assist air soft gun. This year they brought a salvaged 6 DoF industrial robot arm that they brought back to life with their custom open source robot controller. It’s so cool to talk with them and get a glimpse into the madness.

There was also a really cool LED snowboard. It brought me back to the Every Third Thursday experimental snowboard builds I would obsess over as a kid.

Overall, best Opensauce yet I’d say!!

Nice meeting you and getting to try out the Compass, super cool Furze gave it a go  I was also a big fan of that snowboard although not sure about those huge batteries strapped to the boot!

I like the snowboard too. My only problem was that the bottom is usually on the snow. So you’d only see half the leds. I guess it could be useful from the lift.
