Open software to view & create 3D models from CT & MRI scans

I recently had a couple of CT scans done & found some interesting free software to view the slices & create a 3D model of the scans. It would take quite a bit of cleanup to get the models in a form to print, but might be able to adjust the settings more to get it in better shape.

In case anybody has an interest in this, here is the software. This 1st link gives more info about it

Nice! I’ve been thinking about this for years. I don’t know why they are still working with 2D slices when this technology has been available for decades!

I wonder if you can create individual models of the different parts based on density or I guess greyscale level?

I hope everything goes well with you!

My scans were normal & they didn’t see anything of concern.

I played with being able to edit one of the scans to print my heart, but after spending a half hour or so slicing out out & deleting artifacts using prusaslicer, I put it aside. If I spent some more time fine tuning the threshold, I might could cut down on the editing. There is a github repository for this with 239 forks. One of those might have some better features.

There is also another slicer, but was more difficult to use for me & I had to add a .dcm extension to all the files. 3D Slicer image computing platform | 3D Slicer

That would be really cool to have a perfect copy of your skull sitting on a the shelf!
