I am pretty much done with my build, recently managed to cut the struts! but my table is in my basement and the router is so loud that I need to only run it with my wife out of the house haha! and plus the dust collection, its amounts to hell I read that spindles are quieter, so my question is How hard is to upgrade it? Can I connect it to an IOT relay like the Router? and Are the water cooled ones quieter than the air cooled ones?
Yes, but the vacuum and the cutting noise will always be louder. My AMB is really, really quiet, the other sounds are much more problematic.
Your best bet would be to build an enclosure.
Which router are you using and what speed are you running it at??
I used to run a spindle but now went back to a router. At lower speeds the router isn’t any more noisy that the spindle was. The bit you are using is what makes 90% of the noise usually. But I do know the DeWalt router is SUPER loud. At least the one I had in my LR2 was lol. But a Kobalt or Carbid3d router slowed down isn’t very loud at all. Never had the Makita so not sure how noisy they are.
Carbide router, now that i have been using it constantly its way quieter than my old dewalt was even at 2-3 on the dial. Not as quiet as my watercooled spindles but they are significantly more costly
Spindle won’t be any quieter. Tried it myself and ended up returning.
What is your basement like? Can you add things to absorb the noise? Sound proof panels, carpet, etc.
Either way you should be wearing hearing protection
Huh??? I can’t hear you?!?!?!
Carbide router looks pretty much like a rebadged vevor,(which is a makita clone)
which is the one I have, and its loud as hell
I have 2 and cant share the same opinion. The router it self is like any other trim router bit kind of less. I compared it to a DeWalt wich was my previous routers on V1 machines. None of them makes more noise than the vacuum cleaner . I mostly cut acm aheets (2 thin layers of aluminum with a plastic core), not wood. My machines runs for 7-8hours a day. None of the carbide clones runs specially loud against my watercooled spindle at dial2 with normal cutting speeds (i run the lr4 at 1980mm/min with a single flute spiral @ 4.5doc all day long. No noise
Dont get me wrong, a palm (trim) router is always going to be louder than an air cooled spindle, even more than a wc spindle. Nowadays you can get some cheap stuff from china : 800w aircooled spindle with a HY vfd (compatible with rs485/fluidnc without hassle) for cheap (less than 250) worth it iver a 60 $ router, not in my opinion. Also more complicated, you need to have placement for the vfd etc (wiring is more difficult and you need some quality wiring
I made a dust collector out of a bounce house blower, its about as loud as a box fan. Waaaaaaaaay quieter than a vacuum, which was louder than my router.
At speed setting 2-3, which is where it should be, the router shouldn’t be all that loud.
An enclosure or sound dampening are your best bet.
