Congrats on the next phase!!

Thank you!!!

I am going to push this up again since I can’t offer that service at the moment, I’ve just got too much on my plate with all the other things I’m doing.

The EU changing packaging laws also doesn’t really help since I can’t really ship outside of Germany any more (technically, neither can Jonathan, but I’d like the EU try to sue an American company…).

So I encourage everyone who needs a fully build LR to talk to Jonathan for the moment.

What a bummer. We need to have builder summits in the EU so people can take their own parts home with them. Are there any locations near Oldenberg where we could host build sessions?

That’s actually an interesting idea. We have something like this already: https://cnc14.de/

I am pretty sure that would need some insurance and stuff as well. I am going to ask around whether I need special permits for that or whether I can create terms that release me from any liability.

Thanks Jim!

If you want to know more, Google PPWR compliance. It’s supposed to protect the environment but screws small businesses over big time. I’d need to pay 1000-2000€ per country I am shipping to. They want to have a unified system by 2031… Lol. They are actually working on exceptions for small businesses, but if they aren’t implemented till February, I can’t ship outside Germany any more…

Huh? Didn’t hear of anything in that regard? did I miss some european parliament crazy bullshit again? o_O

Yes. The PPWR. Screwing small businesses all over Europe (and further, but a lot of businesses don’t care or don’t know EU’s rules that they also would need to comply with).

CNC14 prices are bonkers, btw:

2680€ minimum. They are mostly plywood. Their X axis “upgrade” is 400€…

This is without the actual spindle btw. And someone who helps you build costs 680€…

Also, you have to take care of your stay and food and the transport of the CNC…

“Nicht in den Kosten enthalten sind Übernachtungen, Anreise oder Verpflegung.
Den Abtransport der fertigen Fräse am letzten Workshoptag verantwortet der Fräsenbauer.”

And the FAQ tell you that you have to pay 19% taxes on top… wow…

I had an awesome experience working with @FreneticScribbler and @ChrisB at the NottingHack MakerSpace in the UK when I went to SMRRF 26. The idea of hosting a machine builder session in a setting like that has been on my mind ever since.

Surely there are plenty of such places around the EU. I meant to look for similar places when I was in France earlier this year, but my work schedule didn’t afford much time.

I could also imagine visiting a certain MakerSpace in Norway, though that’s less convenient for those trying to take partial machines back home with them using the amazing rail transport available in the EU.

I could imagine a version of JJ’s shipping box being the perfect way to transport a partial machine (basically an assembled or partially assembled beam)

Regarding the PPWR, i think you qualify for micro enterprise: PPWR fĂĽr kleine Unternehmen und Kleinstunternehmen

Or are you secretly employing more than 10 people with more than € 2.000.000 turnover :winking_face_with_tongue:

Nothing of that helps, because it hasn’t got anything to do with the necessity of registering in other counties. :frowning:

The PPWR is a really complex moloch and those things your website quotes are for a lot of different things, but are not helping with the core problem.

The thing is that the certification needs to be handled by the packaging producer, as i understand it. And like the GDPR it will probably be mostly a paper tiger. But the idea is good news for the environment and gives more responsibility to mega companies like Amazon.

Like the Dutch saying: “the soep will not be eaten as hot as it is served”

Yeah, and outside of Germany I count as the producer.

And no one is going to risk it, the fines are too high.
