Northern lights at mid lattitudes in north america 11 Nov 2025

If you’re in North America, go look north tonight. There’s a big solar storm, and the northern lights are visible as far south as at least Colorado.

Here’s Nederland, CO:

A family member’s house in the high rockies (not far from Aspen, CO)

Durango, CO:

Ft Collins, CO

Annnnnd… My back deck:

Edit: They just started moving the astronauts’ sleeping locations on the ISS due to the solar storm.

Edit 2: Flared up again even better, quite visible to the naked eye ~22:00 local time here in Colorado. Spanned the entire horizon to the north. Extra light is moonrise.

Edit 3: Visible at Cape Canaveral, FL. !! (Hopefully a sister mission [participation by a set of partners to my current mission] will launch tomorrow)

Great pics!

Just a hint of colour behind a thick wall of white here in Central Ontario.

Unlike @azab2c, I won’t be seeing any leaves for at least 5 months or so.

I got one not far from my house in MN. From a phone held on the roof of my car…

Cool. Ive been to Iceland a number of times and my best view of the Northern lights was from the plane as I arrived/left

Whenever I hear on the news about an unusual night sky event like this or the meteor showers I can’t help thinking about the start of Day of the Triffids…

It was overcast in my area yesterday so I saw nothing. But, here’s a picture, taken by a family member, from the south shore of Lake Ontario near St. Catharines on October 10th last year.

It was very visible here is Minnesota. I did not get any pictures but it is forecasted to be strong again tonight so I may drive away from the city lights to get a better view.

They were visible in NE Dallas too. My neighbors got some good pictures of the red glow. I didn’t see it myself.

Potentially good viewing again tonight (12 November 2025)

Storm revised down to G2, no big northern lights tonight.

I got one:

But last night was nowhere near the night before where it could be seen without a camera.
