Nice print!
Interesting - I got the shipping notice today on my Polymaker PET-CF order. I shipped from Tracy, CA. That’s the same post office that I see on the tracking for V1E stuff.
Has anyone ever seen Ryan and Polymaker in a room together? Hmmm. Conspiracy.
What, really??? Who out here has polymaker, I have an account with them, my orders never came from here. But local PET-CF…sign me up.
I just ordered 2 rolls of their PET-CF to try out. Sucks they come as 500g spools instead of 1kg. But the price of 2 was a few bucks less than I pay for the Siraya Tech so I wanted to give it a shot.
These are my results from the end of my first roll. Absolutely agree that the 500g sucks. I’m not even sure why 1kg isn’t at least an option. It’s expensive, but not exorbitant for the engineering type filaments.
It does stick well enough to my build plate that it is pulling up some of the PEI powder coat. I’ve really had to bring the bed temp down from what they recommend. (TPU started the damage, PET is just continuing to increase the torn up area.)
I am waiting on the larger shipment to have enough on hand for the core and YZ’s, but I’m already dreading overnight prints where I’ll need to get up and switch spools. I do have some orbiter runout sensors in the house, so I’m thinking I may need to take the time to install one before printing the larger pieces with this stuff.
Good results thus far though.
Yeah PET sticks like crazy! Have had zero bed adhesion issues for sure lol. Hopefully you dont have any issues with filament swaps. I only had one with PET-GF, and thats because my printers are set to leave the heaters on for a pause, and it paused right after I went to bed. Got up the next morning and fixed it, but when I restarted that part that was in the nozzle heated up all night was burnt black. and Now my pretty Blue PET-GF core has a black stripe in it lol. Thankfully that was for my personal machine and not for a customer one. I have now set my pause for the extruder to turn off after 10 min and the bed to stay hot so I don’t lose a print on an overnight pause.
Uggh - yeah. I’m always worried that those long pauses on high temp filaments will jam by the time I wake up.
The IDEX kit for my printer arrives Monday. Once installed I may just set an extruder swap for a height so it can keep printing. Ideally, I’d set a macro so the filament runout could just trigger an auto swap to the other extruder.
That sounds like the way to go to me! That would be awesome for sure.
I didn’t have any issues with Jam’s. But what caught the filament sensor was the filament breaking in the reverse boden, thankfully before the sensor lol. Made some adjustments to my routing and no problems after that.
When I ordered in December it was fulfilled by amazon.
If it is anything like the Polylite PLA I just used up to print the LR4, it will be great. I am going to start buying this instead of Prusament with the international shipping.
Currently I have been using this for PET-CF…
But when I saw the Polymaker I figured I would give it a try.
From what I can see they don’t offer it in the Wholesale program, and straight from their website its more than it is on Amazon. I am curious to see how it prints vs the Siraya Tech stuff I have been using. I have high hopes for it. Most everything I have used from Polymaker as been good stuff. their PLA is about the only thing I havent tried lol.
Oh yeah if you bought it from Amazon I have fulfillment centers surrounding me. The made several of their own buildings here. Literally, three of my neighbors work there. Bummer I hoped they had a shop here of some sort.
You can use glue stick on your bed for TPU and other filaments that bind to the PEI - in this case it’s a barrier rather than aid to adhesion.
I have a kilogram of both Siraya Tech and Polymaker. I recently built a setup to measure the Young’s modulus of filaments after a bad experience with some Priline PC-CF which I wrote about in a topic under random. But I plan to measure the poly maker and siraya pet-cf for fun. I’ll post what I find.
But I’d be curious to compare those PET-CF filaments against Bambu labs stuff. If anyone has a roll of that and would be willing to print a few test samples and mail them to me that would be cool. Otherwise I’ll just need to wait for my need for numbers gets the better of me and I just order a roll of that too ha ha
Yes I remember that thread and I very much look forward to seeing the results of your test!
Anyone seen the PPA-CF from Bambu Labs? Clough42 just did a video on it and it sure seems insanely strong! At $150 for 750g a LR4 might be a little pricey but it would be cool to see!
Screenshot of the mechanical properties from the video.
He spent a lot of time testing, but seems like he pretty much achieved the stated numbers.
Im no engineer, so maybe this would be like butter for our use case. But just thought it was cool.
We don’t really need strong, most all plastics are plenty strong for what we do. We are looking for stiff/rigid, young’s/ bending modulus, then low creep, then temp resistance.
Looks pretty stiff. All the failures were brittle. He managed to achieve the claimed strengths there so presumably the specs can be trusted somewhat.
XY Young’s Modulus: 11.8 GPa vs 4.3 GPa for Ultimaker PET-CF.
Z Young’s Modulus: 4.3 GPa vs 2.4 GPa for Ultimaker PET-CF.
Temp resistance is no problem, it’s printed at 300°C and annealed at 150°C
No idea about creep under load. Presumably that’s something that’d need to be tested specifically as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a spec for anything like that?
Well - I guess that’s the answer. The USPS delivered the filament, but the tracking shows that Amazon shipped it to a regional distribution center where it was transferred to USPS.
