As eager as we all are, you are seriously moving fast on the development. Your decathlon and effort is greatly appreciated.
Make that dedication…
No - keep it “decathalon” and @vicious1 doesn’t get to sleep until he’s got at least 10 “events” he’s ready to run.
. Let’s see:
- MPCNC (first version, 525, Burly, Primo)
- Lowrider (first and V2)
- ZenXY (first and almost-released next edition)
- MP3DP
Only one more to go, unless I missed one somewhere…
Don’t you have a polar table ready to roll somewhere too?
Sneaky…trying to get a glimpse at my “x files” folder.
Can’t blame a guy for tryin’
I honestly consider using the zenxy plans for making a dedicated pen plotter. (Turning it upside down and adding a servo+pen holder) I have stepper motors, pipes and belts. My wife would file for a divorce if I spent too much on a new machine, but if I can make use of what I already got, it’ll be a cheap project
Edit: I guess a cantilevered version is simpler, I just want to use the 25mm tubes I have laying around… don’t mind me, I don’t want to hijack this thread!
When I read decathlon, I thought about the fact that he is a one man band for this whole thing:
- Ideas
- CAD
- Printing/manufacturing
- Testing
- Electronics
- Software
- Sales
- Support
- Purchasing
- Documentation
Jack of all trades.
And don’t forget International Business Relations!
For the 25mm tubes, you’re probably better off with the old version, though that’s not really “upside down” friendly… Hmmm. Maybe I should re-think my mostly complete design. I was about halfway to turning it into a CoreXY 3D printer.
I’m excited to see the new category in the store! (Well, updated category might be more correct)
I’m starting another build. I have a sick friend who is in some serious need of some zen, I think. He’s going to get a ready-built table with an SD card pre-loaded with a good sized array of sandify patterns.
EVERYONE needs some zen, more so if you are dealing with anything extra stressful.
I was sure no one would notice the shop edits yet. You get a gold star for that one.
I have all sorts of things on order. I have magnets coming this time, I am a little worried they are almost double as strong as the last recommended ones. Endstops with new wires should be here Monday with the SKR order.
Still unsure about control boards, but I know it has to use tmc’s.
I don’t know if you want to jump into it, but the grbl esp32 board with tmc and pen plotter in the name is a really good fit, IMO. I think a mini rambo would work, but it isn’t tmc. An einsy rambo would work, but if you go that far, I would consider an skr turbo.
I just bought this controller from Bart
This may be a new version of what Jerffeb3 is using.
I’ll run grbl_esp32. Since it has built in tmc2209 drivers we might even be able to do sensorless homing.
Oh, that’s cool. Mine doesn’t have the drivers built in.
Mine is this one:
Cheaper, but you still need tmc 2130s.
That black one looks like it would work great. I only use the motor connections and the two endstops.
Yeah, I thought it looked like a good fit. If it works well I was going to ask Bart if he would make a custom version that has 2 motor outputs , 2 endstop inputs and the right MOSFETs and PWM pins to drive an LED strip from the board. My daydreaming thought we could tell grbl to change the spindle output (PWM) which would control the LEDs. Would just need to add that mapping to the gcode or in sandify / sandypi.
Oh that black one looks to be the ticket!!!
~$40 and you get a web interface I think that is perfect. As much as I love the little screens…Wait, can we use the esp’s with the oled to just add a start playlist button, heck or even a hardware button to start the playlist?
12-30v means we can still run on a cordless power tool battery even.
Tindie won’t let me log in to buy one!!!
Just starting to get my MPCPC dirty, haven’t even got the table done on my LowRider2, still printing out Primo upgrade parts in my spare time, last thing I thought I would be even thinking about was a Zen table.
I did look at the build once, not that I didn’t appreciate the work that went into it, or the beautiful designs possible, I looked into Sisyphus, and I did try and vote for Jeff every day, it’s just I was more interested in making sawdust.
But just the other day the boss showed me a picture of a sand table and said “One of those would be nice for downstairs, I bet the kids would love it. I wonder how much they cost”.
Translation: stop the presses, get up to speed ASAP on what goes into a zen table, before we spend $$$ on a crappy one or $$$$ on a good one.
In the interest of starting off conservatively (ok cheap), I’m leaning towards taking a cue from SupraGuy and going the Ikea lack route.
Ikea is 5 minutes from my shop, everything is in stock there, and I’ve got quite a bit hardware wise from my yet to be finished LowRider.
I’m just wondering if I should start printing from the current ZenXY files or wait for the files for Gen2Zen err name yet undecided version?
I’ve still got to order what I don’t have from V1 and I don’t know how the hardware is going to change between versions, so I’m hesitant to even do that.
With the post office being as bad as it is lately, I know I can expect at least two weeks for delivery, so we’re not starting building tomorrow.
I’m not in that much of a hurry, I just think I am, just looking for some guidance…
Wait for the second version. We are really really close now.
