[Newbie] Y0 (End)Stop & Homing?

Hi,

I almost finished my build but there is something I’m very confused with and I need clarifications.

I’ve made my first movements using WebUI and when making the beam backwards (toward Y0) I reached the limit and it continued to force until instruction was done, fortunately without breaking anything. Then I dont understand this sentence ( LowRider CNC V4 - V1 Engineering Documentation )

99% of builds are going to use this endstop, homing to Ymin. The locations for the endstops located at the back are only for those who want to home to Ymax (not recommended for beginners, needs changes to the config).

I’d like now to start the initial calibration ( LowRider CNC V4 - V1 Engineering Documentation ) but one of the very first step is “Home the X and Y axis”. OK for X but how to do with Y ? Manually by small steps ?

Thanks for help.
T.

The endstops only work during homing. They will not do anything during a normal jog or during a job. This is so if one is accidently triggered during a job it wont kill your job. The good thing is 99.9% of the time running into one of the stops like you did doesn’t hurt anything. The motors make a nasty grinding noise but it doesn’t hurt them at all. Just the stepper skipping steps. This will throw off your home position though, so you should rehome after this happens.

If you have all 5 endstops in the YBR locations you will home to Y min with the endstops. You just need to use the home function to have them active. Once you click Y home, the machine will start to move to Y min until it triggers both endstops.

Hopefully all of that made some kind of sense.

Thanks for your reply Jonathan, more clear now.
Happy to hear that grinding noise is not a big deal (was more worried for belts in fact).
Actually I was confused on the X/Y referential and I was expecting the machine to stop using endstop while joggling.
Will continue on calibration now. Thanks again.
