New projects

A couple of signs I’ve made. Still working on best practices for painting/stain. I colored one with acrylic markers, still trying to decide if I want to paint the other one or not.

The cuts came out perfect, super clean lines! Lots of fine details, great job.

Really nice!!

Can you add some details on the Mindy & Rusty job?

Super nice. I just am not sure the workflow? Design>Vector creation? >Machining? >most of all how you did the great painting. What material?

My wife is an artist and has the painting skill but I just can’t get her to help :joy:

But nice!!! :+1:

Thanks!

I used chatgpt to create the Mindy and Rusty image, then imported that into vectric aspire. Used a 1/4” end mill for roughing. And a 15 degree tapered end mill for finishing.

This is in 3/4” particle board. I would not recommend it, had several pieces break off. Milled to a 3/8” depth, then painted the whole thing with black spray paint.

Next I sanded the top surface back to bare wood, and used acrylic markers to “paint” in the colors. I went over each section with solid colors, then came back over each with a second color to add some depth. Then several coats of rattle can clear.

The Barracuda sign is some mdf I recycled from an old wooden cased electric fireplace. Much better material to work with. After carving, I sprayed it with several coats of black spray paint, then sanded the front back to bare wood. If you zoom in you can see where the paint soaked inward on some of the edges, messing up some the fine lines. I may try some sanding sealer before trying to paint next time.

I would also like to try some colored stains/inks, to get some blending of colors

I’m still learning, so I feel these issues are part of it.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I’ve read several people say they do that before engraving for an epoxy pour. It should work with paint too I’d think.

They turned out really nice Russell.

Wow, I thought for sure you did the design work yourself. That is great.
