New MPCNC for 2020! - Primo -

It’s all good and I understand totally.

Anything I can buy that would great for this new version that won’t be in the kit?

PETG or will PLA work?

I still prefer PLA for most of it. The most important part will be the large center piece. the rest can be whatever you want.

I don’t have a problem with clever tricks like Polyholes. These are great solutions to the problem.

I am curious about how the end stops are going to connect in this new world of MPCNC Primo…

I feel like Ryan is either being a tease or didn’t anticipate this much interest in the new version and is panicking a little.

Nah, he just wanted to let everyone know why there is no stock and why there will be no stock for a little while and at the same time, drum up interest in the new model.

Another option is have the microswitches go into a clamshell case that bolts together with m3 screws so you don’t need the 2.5mm ones. Or you can just screw a M3 into the casing of a microswitch, and it’ll tap threads into the plastic. Or use a 3mm drillbit. Or 1/8" which is slightly over 3mm. Lots of options.

Teasing details is fun. I am letting go of as much info as I would like, as soon as I believe it to be final. The thing really is just simply not done. I can not get any inventory of anything right now so why not take the time to fix all the little things that normally I would not have time for and are too small to do a full new version release. Definitely no build panic here, I have used the new parts and they work great, I will panic about bills if things do not start showing up soon though. The crappy part is I have never in the 5 years of this biz been on this end of so much hate so I truly am guarding my hard work until I am ready to run with it. I still get plenty of private and public messages that are far from encouraging to share anything ever again.

Yup, this was to be unveiled at MRRF. Now I have more time to put the shine on this thing! I can’t get any parts so we might as well wait for new stuff not old stuff.

Yes but this version is trying to get simplified. M8 & M5, (M3 and M2.5 are dictated by the hardware we use). Simplification should keep the price low while improving some other things that cost more.

Just to give a little, tiny tiny bit. I had what I thought was a final part…ended up making a few tiny changes +0.2-0.3mm tweak in a few spots to make it print better…so why not add some details to match what you all have already seen?!

Will any parts be interchangeable? For example if the new version releases before i get to the center section?

I can only say currently, yes, for the 25.4 and surely the 25mm versions. The 23.5 may or may not. There are two systems involved the XY, and the Z/center. Currently The beta testers are building the XY and testing/building with the old Z/center, I am working on fine tuning the Z.

Well fun for me. Is it better to see tiny glimpses or should I stop and just wait for the release?

Ya could do like they did with new model year cars when I was a kid, put ‘em in the showroom under wraps for a week or two and no peekin’ allowed.

I enjoy the whole design process, so I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of the background stuff. I also haven’t had the time to learn a proper 3d design program so I’m still using tinkercad. I think your system is great, and haters should piss off. They don’t have to use it if they don’t like it.

Sorry, to hear that. It is unfortunate that the internet spawns so much negativity. I’ve been wanting to build a system for some time now but I’m new to the forum. I’ve been playing forum catchup and have grown to appreciate the amount of work that you guys have put into it and the different versions/variations. You guys are awesome!

That all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. I’m enjoying the extended reveal mainly because I’d prefer that you get it right and not be forced to release something that is not ready. That’ll also save me time and headache in my build. Keep up the great work!

I like the glimpses, and even the background information. I’m not in favor of radio silence, so thank you for the updates.

Yeah, i don’t get it. There are several diy 3d printed cncs. Don’t like this one? Pick a different one. Think you can build it better? Go ahead. Ryan has been up front about his design goals and gone kind of a long way to explain the choices he made.
I’ve seen some people claim that this or that would be better, but when it violates the goals it isn’t an option, right?
I don’t know. In some of the groups I’ve seen on the internet, it’s like people want other folks to design their machine for them, their way.
Personally, I’ve learned more about cnc and design just by watching the discussions around here than I’ve learned from the rest of the internet combined.

Love it !!! Elevator music!!!

I think fanboy-ism is strong everywhere, also in the maker community. Perhaps it’s always been this way with humanity, perhaps it’s stronger now with all the polarization happening globally. Personally I’d admit a fanboy inclination towards v1
but honestly, what keeps me here is the awesomeness of the MPCNC, but just as much the friendly and extremely helpful community

The reality is no matter what you do/don’t do, there are always the few who are going to piss & moan. Dollars to donuts, if you were to post on Craigslist you’re giving away free $10 bills you’d get some whining that they weren’t $20 bills.

Know what? Screw 'em! You’ve created things that never existed and the pix in the galleries make it obvious you’ve inspired and facilitated people from all over the world to do likewise. Good on ya!
