New(ish) Jackpot Issue with MicroSD and USB

That seems a bot more reasonable, but I still can not imagine a place like Adafruit doing very well like that. There boards are top notch but there are a ton of ways to innocently kill one.

My understanding is that Adafruit uses distributors in the EU (and elsewhere in the world), and that pricing, warranty, and shipping are all tailored by the distributors themselves to match local regulatory requirements.

For Adafruit boards, it doesn’t seem to be too terrible. A random example of the ADA-4759:
$24.95 in the US from Adafruit direct, € 29.69 from a distributor in Germany.

That should mean that any given EU distributor places an additional markup on products sold to cover an expected return rate across those longer legally required warranty perids

I have several European colleagues in the office and they all note that the prices are higher in their home countries, but also that their support is substantially better. Far less utter crap at the low end compared to what we’re flooded with, and yes some abuse of the terms ‘because you can’.

Edit: we should probably spin up a thread for this somewhere to stop polluting Darren’s thread…

Adafruit isn’t known for low margins either though.

Success! Turned out to be a defective ESP32. I deeply appreciate everyone’s assistance and really look forward to finally getting into the world of CNC!
