Has anyone modelled mounts for NEMA23 steppers for the Lowrider v2 by any chance?
Or upgraded theirs and can comment on it?
Cheers,
Chris

I was concerned also, but I built a full 4’x8’ with the stock parts and the Nema17’s are fine.
To use more speed, you need more rigidity…
I’m incredibly happy with a sub $1k (table, router, etc) full sheet router.
The next level up for something like this is over $10k.
That is exactly how I feel about it.
But wouldn’t it be nice to experiment and try these things out? If it fails, it fails. It’s half the fun, IMO. I have 3 nema 23’s and if there were mounts for them I probably (at some stage) try them on, probably getting a couple more to keep them all the same.
Yes. The V1 machine’s biggest strength is their flexibility. I think the real danger is that a lot of people think it will make a big difference, and if someone does it and posts the files, then new people will try to follow without knowing enough to see why it might not make sense. Ryan triggers on words like “better” without justification. So someone posting the files and saying, “nema 23s make it better” will probably give him a heart attack.
I keep hoping someone fills the conduit with something too, but no one has (afaik).
That’s true. Maybe we should name these experiments “Do not try this at home” lol
“Better”, “upgrade”, “V2”…kills me. If it is better I will change the kit, means nothing to me to change, if it is better I wanna provide better!
“Modified”, or “trying out”, all good in my book. Please try things out, but before you use a no no word you better prove it.
A recent relevant story. I saw a post somewhere, maybe reddit, one person said “I got crappy bearings, the boca are a million times better”. I have had 2000 Boca’s on hand for at least 2 if not 3 years. I sold every single one in two weeks after that one unverified comment. That video of the machine with double belts, My belt sales went through the roof, people buying kits mpcncn’s with 50’(!!!) of belt.
So when you have some old stock sitting around, please let me know and I’ll make some kind of comment and help move it along.
That said, I may have had my first bad stepper. The Z axis keeps giving me issue on one side unless I crank up the power. I checked that everything runs freely and even without the router in and little weight one side often has trouble. I am thinking of ordering some stronger ones, by they are all 1.8degree steps, I believe yours are double that. Do you see any issue using this to replace (in pairs)
There are 94oz steppers but they are longer and would require modification of the plate for the Y axis.
I just don’t want to order a stepper that is not a good fit for the lowboy and mini rambo.
Thanks!
Chris
I use 1.8’s. Just swap out your Z for one of the Y steppers. That does a few things, proves the issue being stepper of build, potentially saves you cash, if the stepper still moves chances are really good it is fine.
You can always just slow down the Z a bit and maybe decrease the Z acceleration. I keep the Z under 10, usually 8mm/s. I will always sacrifice speed for reliability.
