Hi I have been trying to buy a DWP611 but they are out of stock everywhere and I gave up looking. So what is good alternative to the dewalt. Thanks
People seem happy with the Makita.
I picked up the Bosch recently. I think the technology for these little guys has really stepped up a lot. I picked up my Porter Cable 891 2.25hp fixed base kit about 14 years ago, no one was thinking about these palm routers much. There were a few laminate trimmers and roto-zip came out to go mid-range against dremel to offer more guts and cutters.
So I would say, as long as you choose a brand that is well known for their larger quality routers, you’re probably going to do really good!
Thanks! I will look at the Makita
I will vouch for the Makita. I first started using one when I upgraded to the Primo MPCNC design from my Burly build, which used the DeWalt 660. I immediately noticed a considerable improvement in noise reduction as well as what seemed like more rigidity at the point of contact. I can run it without shutting the door on my enclosure without the risk of upsetting my neighbors. Plus, the variable speed was a welcome feature (the DeWalt 611 also has this).
Soon after my Primo build, I completed my Lowrider build using the DeWalt 611. It was my first time using the 611, and while I was certainly pleased, I sometimes wish I had picked up another Makita.
For the record, I have no way of measuring what I consider the improvements to be regarding noise and rigidity. Regarding the noise, I think I’ve even seen tests with decibel meters showing very little improvement if any at all. But, what the human ear perceives as more pleasant (or less offensive, rather) isn’t necessarily contingent upon the decibel levels alone. The pitch is also a huge factor and I imagine there are others as well. The DeWalt definitely produces a more “shrill” noise that pretty much demands ear protection while running.
Just my opinion.
Wait, I thought these posts we’re supposed to stay non-political! Hahaha!
You kidding? The internet is the perfect place to have a civil discussion about religion and politics. It’s pretty much how I make all of my friends these days. I swear I have friends.
Seriously. I’ve got 'em.
Thanks, you guys are a wealth of knowledge. I have been putting this project off for a year but now its coming around. Finishing up prints today and hopefully building the table tomorrow.
I second the Makita, I switched form a ridgid. First I thought it was louder but I was running it way too fast. I’m running around speed 2 now and it’s super quiet and works great. Also the release is much better in the OEM holder/mount than the ridgid. I really like the Makita now.
Yeah, something happens when you get reading in the forums. As much help it provides, it’s also very motivational. I truly appreciate @vicious1 and @jeffeb3 and others who continually take the time to at least ‘like’ the posts to let you know they are keeping tabs with makers and providing hints and a little guidance to keep your vision on the path. Rarely is there any negative energy here either - there is, but it’s usually a lot more kind than a direct call out. Something like “well, that’s one way to do it” hahaha!
Truth is, most of the folks on here are tinkerers anyway and are usually up for debate on best practices, because they want the right way to do something, and a good maker is one who realizes their way might not be that right way. So being open to counter argument in a path to completion is a great place to be here.
Thanks!
I need to buy my first router and plan on making the lowrider2.
Please post the model and/or link to the Makita.
Thanks!
I purchased mine from Amazon Makita RT0701C
Free shipping and got it the next day!
I have the Makita as well and love it. Same one you bought on Amazon. I did extensive research comparing the DeWalt and Makita and they are so similar. “Do you have a coin? Flip it.” Read that in a forum and it’s very true.
I also have the Makita RT0701C
I chose it because it has the speed control. Downside is it only ships with a 1/4" collet, but Ryan has 1/8" collets for it. The Dewalt would have shipped with both collets.
