Curious to hear folks first-hand assessment of that at opensauce…

Not having much crumple zone up front puts me off to it. Interesting idea though.

I’ve talked about that thing with a lot of friends in the industry. The general consensus is ā€˜lol, I’ll believe it when I see it’…

They’re making a big deal about cutting costs by it being barebones except that a lot of the things removed really aren’t that impactful on overall costs, especially not these days.

If the deposit is refundable and no big deal then I’d be tempted, too, but just be aware… There are a few companies that have taking deposits and gone under leaving people out of pocket.

That’s not too bad.

I’d still probably want to give it a bit at least, especially from a new manufacturer, doubly so for a manufacturer trying to hit an aggressive price point!

It has more crumple zone than an F-150.

I’d have to work out how. I have an F-150. I sit at least as far from the front bumper in that as the back seat in this.

It just doesn’t have the motor in the front. The motor is not a crumble zone because it gets pushed into your intestines. :sweat_smile:

It’s pretty simple - the F100 has a chassis which is not designed to crumple. Typically the notion of ā€œsafetyā€ comes about because they look undamaged after an impact with a small car, while the small car looks (and is) completely destroyed. However, the occupants of the small car often walk away because it has been designed to crumple and absorb the impact of the collision, while the truck occupants absorb the sudden stop (assuming they have seat belts) while the ā€œcrumple zoneā€ is the minimum it can be to meet regulations. The chassis may well be bent, but it didn’t crumple or absorb any of the force.

In most well designed cars the motor is designed to deflect downwards away from the passenger compartment, in the truck it’s just another weapon!

Neat!
Looks like a 3D printed kit version of the Shapr Origin. Its cool that it uses optical sensors (possibly from a mouse?) instead of relying on a camera and the proprietary tape.

He was in the V1 booth with us this year at RMRRF, and is presently at OpenSauce With some of the Sandify crew incluidng Ryan and Jeffe.

No :poop: If I had his budget I would for sure have one of his Fiber lasers! I just cant come close to justifying the cost for what I would do with it :rofl:
